In my opinion people shouldn't have to use fluorescent light bulbs. Your opinion might be different though. I have researched that compact fluorescent light bulbs have about 5 milligrams of mercury. Mercury is highly toxic! Mercury is terrible for the brains of young children. But why is this important? It all starts when one of these light bulbs breaks. When the bulb is broke, the Mercury escapes it and if inhaled, can be deadly. It leaves the bulb in a vapor. This vapor can seep down into carpets and wood floors. The EPA director suggests that when one of the bulbs break, to open windows and to step outside for a while so the vapor can escape. Another trouble of these bulbs is disposing them. If the bulb breaks, some suggest using duck tape to pick up small pieces. So the next time you are thinking of buying a fluorescent light bulb, you might want to take these facts in consideration.
